Medal winning boxer honored

The Nepal Democratic Sports Association of Bagmati Province honored the medal winners of the ASBC Asian U-22 Boxing Championship with cash on Thursday.

Sushma Tamang won silver in women's 48 kg, Hema Rai in 57 kg and Trisha Jabegu bronze in 75 kg of the competition held in Bangkok, Thailand from January 18 to 26. Vijay Bata won bronze in men's 86 kg.

20,000 was awarded to Sushma. The silver medal won by Sushma is the biggest medal won by any Nepali athlete at the Asian level in the history of Nepali boxing. The rest of the bronze winners got 10,000 each. Trisha from Jhapa was not present at the event.

Deepak Maharjan and Sandeep Shrestha, the coaches of the competition, were honored with 5,000 each, while Om Narayan Shrestha, the manager, was also honored. Lal Prasad Upreti and Indra Bahadur Sunar, who participated in the competition, were awarded with certificates. On the same occasion, coaches Rajkrishna Maharjan and Naveen Tandukar were also honored for their contribution to the production of national and international players.

Youth and Sports Minister Dig Bahadur Limbu, Bagmati Province MP Meena Parajuli, Nepali Congress Central Member Radha Ghale, Nepal Democratic Sports Association Bagmati Province President Deepak Gurung honored them with cash and certificates.
